This ring is dramatic, completely handmade and unique. A size 9, it's massive in scale, yet intricate in the details, particularly the 14K mounting. Two undulating twisted bands of gold surround the drop shaped stone, held securely by 6 prongs. A fan-like pattern of radiating bars form an architectural basket design on the back that really lets in the light. The faceted pear is just over 10 carats, a high quality example of smoky quartz, though it's worth noting this was known as smoky topaz throughout the 20th century, including in late 1930s - early 40s when this was made. The color is subtle and beautiful, a cognac to root beer brown, shifting with the light. See details below.
