This is an absolutely gorgeous, one of a kind 14kt yellow gold diamond solitaire ring. This piece has a very unique design. The very top of the ring is raised slightly higher than the lower part of the mounting, exposing a gorgeous hand carved nugget design from all sides. A hole was hand drilled in the middle and a thick head was hand soldered on to hold a natural not enhanced, bright white brilliant cut diamond. This fiery brilliant has a perfect dispersion of light, so it sparkles with all the bright colors of the rainbow. This mounting is thick, strong and very powerful, so it is practically indestructible. It has a thick enclosed backing underneath, so this piece will feel very comfortable when worn. The backing has a small opening so that it will be easier to clean the diamond.

These diamonds were popular from around 1800’s to 1920’s. During those days, all stones were cut by hand by talented master cutters, which took lots of patience and skill. This style of diamond was different than the old mine-cut diamond. This diamond saw an increase in the number of facets and a decrease in the size of the table. There was also a decrease in the size of the culet, which allowed more light into the stone. This hand-carved mounting is very bright and white. Before modern times, white gold was manufactured using platinum, palladium, and or rhodium as an additional alloy. This made white gold almost twice the cost of yellow gold. The good thing was that white gold would stay white throughout a lifetime. Every part was hand-carved deep into the gold, so the designs have not worn away over time.
