An important thing to mention regarding condition descriptions of antique and vintage jewelry is its judgement criteria which is very different than that applied to modern jewelry. The expectation for modern jewelry classified as being in “excellent’ condition is an item that is possibly high polished and in close to new condition. Antique and vintage jewelry is never supposed to be polished. In fact, polishing antique jewelry can actually diminish its value and appeal. Therefore, patina, mild surface scratches, bruises, nicks and other indications of age can, and depending on the degree, should be present in antique jewelry classified as being in excellent condition.
