Varied Lot of Vintage Collar Buttons & Studs

From the 1820’s til about the 1930’s men had detachable collars, and for evening wear, detachable shirt fronts. This situation required jewelry that’s rarely needed now. Here’s a selection that shows the variety of styles, shapes, findings and materials available. Women sometimes had detachable collars as well, so some of these pieces cold have been meant for women. The oldest examples are the 2 large brass and goldtone collar buttons, the tiny goldtone square, the button with the laurel wreath and with a large clear rhinestone on one side and mother of pearl on the other. The wishbone with faux pearl and the 4 mother of pearl / abalone studs are probably the newest. Only a few pieces are signed – the wishbone is Hickok, a company that’s made men’s jewelry since 1909. The small gold filled abalone and faux pearl rounds are Krementz in business from 1866 to 1997, and the glass dome flower stud is marked “The F (reversed) F Company. Most of the pieces have some wear, and the unusual stud with the raised blue flowers over the shiny silvery background have small streaks of brown.
